Get Out! Las Vegas
1. What’s in your wallet right now? Some cash, a $20 Starbucks card, Driver's License, various Credit Cards and my Hard Rock Hotel members club card. I just love hanging out at the HRH! So much fun! 2. What do you wish your parents taught you about money?I wish my parents taught me not to have such good taste. It always seems that whatever one I like the best is inevitably the most expensive! 3. What is your worst habit around finances?I don't balance my personal checkbook. I can't stand balancing to the penny and don't have the patience for it. 4. What makes you happy?Hanging out with my friends and family but most of all, hanging out with them while having great adventures! Since starting this business, I have gone skydiving, skiing and spelunking (caving), shot a .22 caliber gun, learned how to play Poker and all while hanging out with such fun people. Creating my world's most perfect job makes me very happy. Can you believe I get paid to have so much fun? 5. Personal philosophy around money?I've never really thought about this before - I definitely like to spend it when I got it but still smart enough to open up an IRA when I was 26 years old. Thank goodness for my Mother & Grandfather who made me do that. 6. Where does money come from?My Dad's favorite commercial for many, many years was for a financial services company where the guy says "They get money the old fashioned way, they EARN it." As a teenager, I used to get teased by him that I needed to go pick some money from the money tree in the backyard. Since being in the business world, I recognize the significance of the satisfaction of earning something yourself. So I guess, money comes from a person's sweat, worry, and tears. 7. What would you do with a million dollars?I would pay off my house right away and finish furnishing it. I just bought it 6 weeks ago so I still need lots of furniture. I'd also spend some money on advertising and hire a PR firm for the business. Lastly, I'd get a trainer - I just love having a cute guy to help me work out! 8. What is your most prized possession?Business-wise, my most prized possession are my members. Without them, I would absolutely not have a business. They are all so open to new ideas and new kinds of adventures. Personally, my most prized possession is a few pieces of jewelry that various family members have given me. A diamond necklace from my parents, a ring from my grandfather, a cute little charm from my godparents are a few of them. 9. Who is your role model?I have a few role models - my Mom & Dad for sure. Also, very importantly, my two pseudo-mentors Christopher Malone & Jeff Kessler who both own similar clubs. They have been so generous with their advice and help. 10. What is your greatest achievement?Getting the guts to start this business. I packed up all my stuff and moved from a happy life in Manhattan to a new city where I knew absolutely nobody and started a business within a few months that relies on knowing many people. That was a major accomplishment on my part. However, the 3 months before launching the business were a stressful time and I woke up in the middle of the night quite a few times and said "What was I thinking!?!?!?!" The people in this town have been so great and bent over backwards to help me. 11. How did you come up with Get Out?There are similar business around the country and I thought that Las Vegas needed something for singles. Las Vegas locals who are single are often an ignored demographic. It is so hard to meet new people in a tourist town that I thought people would really appreciate somebody starting something just for them. Dating services are so horrible and they don't give you a way to meet new friends. I think finding a new friend of the same sex is WAY harder then finding a date. Just about any of us can hop on the internet and find a date. It's so much harder to establish rapport enough with a new person no matter how much you may have in common. 12. What contributions to society do you want to make?I'd like to be the one who helps people find each other - whether for fun, business, or love. I always say that my 'raison de etre' is to introduce cool people to other cool people and all of them to cool businesses. Networking is the buzz word right now and never before has it been so true that "It isn't what you know, but WHO you know." Philanthropically, I also want to introduce people to helping others. Often people want to volunteer but don't know where to go or what to do. I'll do all the research and then people just have to show up. They want to help but just want to find someone to go with them. I've put myself in the position to organize a group to Walk For The Cure or help other non-profits. As long as it can be made fun or meaningful, most people would LOVE to help others. 13. If you could buy one thing right now what would it be?Wood floor for my new house. I can't wait to pull up this horrible linoleum and carpet and put in a beautiful pre-finished wood floor! I'm saving my pennies! 14. Favorite activity that doesn’t cost a dime?Hiking. I love to get out there and breathe in some fresh air while seeing how beautiful Mother Nature can be. Since starting this business I've found that there are lots of things that don't cost any money and getting people to come along with you makes the entire experience more valuable. 15. How do you indulge yourself?Lately I haven't been. But often I'll take my laptop into the nail salon and work on some write-ups while getting a pedicure. It's definitely a way to make something I don't like to do a bit more enjoyable. The foot massage makes it all MUCH nicer.
