1. What's in your wallet right now?

A picture of my son, business cards and my American Express card.

2. What do you wish your parents taught you about money?

Actually I taught them how to focus on solutions and not problems.

3. What is your worst habit around finances?

It's not really a bad habit but focusing on only my businesses, barbara k! and real estate, as two sure-fire ways of making money.

4. What makes you happy?

My son Zachary, traveling with him, and helping other people around me at barbara k! become successful independent role models.

5. Personal philosophy around money?

If you have a dollar, save a dollar.

6. Where does money come from?

Working your butt off.

7. What would you do with a million dollars?

Make ten million.

8. What is your most prized possession?

My independence.

9. Who is your role model?

Hillary Clinton.

10. What is your greatest achievement?

My son Zachary.

11. How did you come up with the concept of barbara k! tools?

Watching an episode of "Sex and the City" where Samantha bought a new apartment and could not hang her own curtains and chose to call on a boyfriend that would not come over. It was like "Eureka, no woman should ever be in that position!"

12. What contributions to society do you want to make?

To help change the gene pool of young girls to where they have great self esteem. To make them feel comfortable not only in the kitchen but in areas where their mothers have historically lacked confidence, like their homes and cars. To help them learn the feeling of self reliance and independence.

13. If you could buy one thing right now what would it be?

The assurance of health and wealth for everyone I know. The second thing would be a Ferrari.

14. Favorite activity that doesn't cost a dime?

Walking and running on the beach.

15. How do you indulge yourself?

By reinventing myself.

With 10 years of experience in the construction industry, Barbara Kavovit recognized the need for tools designed specifically for women. She launched the barbara k! line of high-quality do-it-yourself kits, tools and accessories in April 2003, with a mission to provide solutions for women in areas where they may lack confidence and knowledge. Her new book, Room for Improvement, is being introduced in spring 2005 by Rodale Press.
