The Wealthy Spirit
1. Whats in your wallet right now?I just bought a new gold wallet to go with my new Kate Spade gold purse. And they match the gold tennis shoes I wear every day. What's in the wallet is a comb, mirror, all the usual IDs including SAG membership card, couple of credit cards, and about $700 cash. 2. What do you wish your parents taught you about money? My parents were great on budgeting—mom kept an envelope of cash for different uses—dinners out, clothes, fun, etc. But I was never clear how the money got into the envelopes! 3. What is your worst habit around finances?Sometimes I play poker a little too long when I'm losing, trying to "get even." I need to pack it in sooner and wait for a "winning" day. 4. What makes you happy?Someone telling me I helped them change their life for the better. Love compliments! Travel—anywhere, anytime—cruises especially. Paris, Hawaii, Las Vegas. Hot Fudge Sundaes. Good friends, good food, and loving family. 5. Personal philosophy around money?Money is an energy and a flow, and you can't keep a tight grip on it. You have to give and get in equal measure, and bless the money you spend as much as the money you make. And have fun doing it! The biggest winner in the Game of Life isn't the one who dies with the most money in the bank, but it isn't the person with the most unpaid bills either. Balancing spirit and money is the ticket to happiness. 6. Where does money come from? From serving other people. 7. What would you do with a million dollars?I expect to get a million dollars and I will do with it what I do with all my dollars: spend some, save some, and give some away. 8. What is your most prized possession?Mr. Kitty, a 26-pound orange-striped hunk-o-love. 9. Who is your role model?Shirley MacLaine—great independent woman, singer-dancer-actress, fearless writer. 10. What is your greatest achievement?Writing The Wealthy Spirit and surviving 18 months of rejections until I got Sourcebooks as my publisher! 11. How did you come up with the idea for the Wealthy Spirit?I had been thinking for weeks about how to write all the lessons I taught in my Financial Stress Reduction Workshops into a book that would be user-friendly and fun to read. I read daily inspirational messages like The Daily Word, and was driving in my car when the idea hit me to do a page-a-day book about money. I thought it was a brilliant idea until I had written 100 stories and realized I had 265 more to write. Yikes! 12. What contributions to society do you want to make?I don't want to give fish. I want to teach fishing. I want the whole world to be happy and rich and know how to do it for themselves. 13. If you could buy one thing right now what would it be?A $10,000 seat in the next World Series of Poker main event. 14. Favorite activity that doesnt cost a dime?Browsing through books at the library and taking a bunch home to read. 15. How do you indulge yourself?I regularly go to the theatre with my buddies, have poker parties at the house, and eat at fine restaurants. I play hookey a lot and often take an afternoon off to take a hot bath, watch TV or read a wonderful book. Whenever I can, I convince my roommate to make more oatmeal cookies, and then I lick the bowl and eat them hot out of the oven. Yummm...wonder where she is now? Chellie Campbell is an award-winning author and speaker. Her book, The Wealthy Spirit: Daily Affirmations for Financial Stress Reduction, published by Sourcebooks, Inc., has been featured in Womans World, Good Housekeeping, Lifetime and was a book-of-the-week selection on the Dr. Laura Schlessinger radio show. Her second book, Zero to Zillionaire, will be released in the Spring of 2006. Chellie's seminars help people create more cash, bigger sales, less debt and more time off for fun!
