Game Maker

1. What’s in your wallet right now?

Pictures of my two daughters, twelve dollars and too many credit cards.

2. What do you wish your parents taught you about money?

That my tooth fairy income, which I relied on heavily, would eventually dry up.

3. What is your worst habit around finances?

I refuse to face facts.

4. What makes you happy?

My daughters, creating things, flea marketing and CANDY!

5. Personal philosophy around money?

I never set out to make money. I do what I love and it follows.

6. Where does money come from?

Thin air.

7. What would you do with a million dollars?

Buy some remote tropical beachfront land with a hot springs with my best friend and co-inventor, Daryl Hannah.

8. What is your most prized possession?

My exact replica of the Wizard of Oz's ruby slippers that actually fit me!

9. Who is your role model?

My grandmother Sally, who was one of the first women in NYC to get her drivers license...she ran her own company and traveled the world. She had incredible style and could make anything but dinner!

10. What is your greatest achievement?

Definitely my two daughters—they amaze me every day.

11. How did you come up with the idea for LIEbrary?

We would have game nights with our friends and this was an old parlor game where we would grab a book off a shelf and play. One Christmas, we were on vacation and couldn't play because there were no books so we took the concept and turned it into a board game out of necessity! We developed it over the years by testing it on our friends. We knew we had a hit because it became the only game everyone wanted to play on game nights.

12. What contributions to society do you want to make?

I love working with kids. Before I had my own I did volunteer work at an orphanage and when I was the evil queen on The Power Rangers I worked with children's charities a lot.

13. If you could buy one thing right now what would it be?

A new hybrid Lexus SUV.

14. Favorite activity that doesn’t cost a dime?

Making stuff out of all the crap lying around the house. I just made a charm necklace from old pieces of my mom's costume jewelry!

15. How do you indulge yourself?

Beverly Hot Springs downtown. Real live underground hot springs in LA. Then they scrub the dead skin off you and massage you with milk and honey! Heavenly!

Hilary Shepard is an actress, writer, musician and game inventor. She was the singer-bass player in the all-girl band, American Girls, on IRS records in the late 80s, then segued into acting where she appeared in many TV shows and movies—-from Star Trek Deep Space 9 to playing the evil queen Divatox in the Power Rangers movie as well as in the series.

Hilary produced the documentary “Searching For Debra Winger” and co-created the TV show Material World on CBC. Together with actress Daryl Hannah, Hilary created the game “Love it or Hate it”, the new board game LIEbrary (available here) and a line of electronic toys that come out in 2006. She lives in LA with her two daughters, Cassidy 14 and Scarlett 8.
